she mentioned how she is equally tortured by guilt if she misses meetings and ministry, and severe stress if she does them.

Thanks for the understanding comments. Tornintwo, you are spot on. My wife feels all that. I have tried to get her to just BE and step back and lick her wounds a little, as I am doing. I have come under serious pressure to be more active again myself, like being asked to take fs meetings, and I have been amazed at myself for being able to kindly but firmly say "no." When they don't expect me to say it as I always gave in in the past, the sense of freedom is surprising. Wow, I can say no!

Xanthippe, she is severely depressed, you said it. Been to docs and she has meds. Not working well so far.

Ucantnome, that is not an option for me at the moment. Got to stay below the parapet to be a support for my wife. She still fully believes and is super fragile.

To answer your question, at the time I was teaching it I truly believed that what I thought would help people. I still believe that the basic Christian precepts taught by Jesus are a positive force for good. I tried not to ever guilt others into doing things, and as I look back I can see that I mostly chose, for example, public talk outlines on Christian living rather than the other, more iffy areas. I accept my part in encouraging others to take on board something I later realized was not all that it seemed to be, but we all have to live with our mistakes.

Had an interesting conversation with my wife recently. She struggles with physical, emotional and psychological problems which have often caused her to miss meetings. She mentioned how she is equally tortured by guilt if she misses meetings and ministry, and severe stress if she does them. Hobson's choice. She suspects me of reading on sites like this only because I have sometimes raised difficult questions. She is terrified that I will stop going as it is a lifeline to her, while at the same time the whole witness lifestyle is the cause of much of her stress. I am a former elder who has held most congregational posts. I now feel zero guilt. How can you feel guilty about something which has misled you? Still love the bros and sis on the ground but the higher ups? Well.....

you must know by now that jerusalem was not destroyed in 607 bce and that 607 was initially picked by ct russell by using his "pyramid scheme" measurements.

there is no hiding these facts yet you continue to preach this nonsense.

Not so easy for those of us with wives and husbands still fully committed. Walking on eggshells. Have a little compassion for people who are still coming to terms with learning all the things we learned were not as they seemed. We have to tread carefully.

CO's never say thank you for the green handshakes

ever noticed how co's and ex-do's never say thank you for the hard earned money they get from the friends?

they truly believe they are entitled to live an easy life at the expense of others.

this makes my blood boil!

In all my 30 plus years as a witness I never knew this happened. Until I read it here. Few remaining illusions shattered. Here was me thinking they were in it to serve others!

Now that I have stepped back and can see all of this from a more realistic perspective, his reasoning is completely out there. Can he hear himself? This is a real "king's new clothes" moment.

Watchtowers policy of shunning our own close relatives

having looked over the february' 2016 wt study article ' learn from jehovah's loyal servants' and meditating on the 'advice' from the fds aka gb regarding the shunning of our own close relatives if they have been disfellowshipped.

the example in par 7 highlighting how a woman called anne shuns her own mother for 'as she says' cutting herself off from jehovah.

i can't help but wonder how audacious and wreckless watchtower is in writing this stuff.

I have a df relative,happened many years ago. I don't think he will ever come back. So one of the reasons for dfing, to let the person see what he is missing, doesn't work in his case. Most of the family ignore the latest heavy hints from the org not to have any association and see him sometimes. But as has been said in other threads, guilting somebody to come back is ridiculous and often doesn't work. A bit like a recent CO talk I mentioned in another thread where he said any baptized bro who is not reaching out to be an ms or elder has something wrong with his heart and is just being selfish. That really made me want to be an elder again. NOT!

Is the term "worldly" outdated?

yesterday i had to listen to the co from a spanish congregation on the phone.

he said the fds has been gradually moving away from the word "worldly" and teaching jws not to use the term anymore.

has anyone heard this in their congregation or heard the term "non-believers" used before?

Slinboyfat beat me to the mention of "worldling." That and "worldly" always made me cringe as being quite insulting, even when I was an elder. Ironic when you think that the phrase "worldly-wise" is often used to denote someone who is smart enough to avoid making mistakes when dealing with others. I don't often hear bros refer to worldling so much anymore but I still hear worldly pretty often, and that somebody is in the world.
